The new Armenian Prime-Minster Tigran Sargsyan has met with representatives of “Ecological Union of Armenian NGO’s”. Members of Prime-Minister staff, Minister Nature Protection and Heads of different departments and gencies of ministry were present at the meeting.

Members of Armenian national academy of Science (NAS) and presidents of principal NGOs presented the main, hot-button Environmental issues, such as:
- Green areas are destroyed as a result of construction in Yerevan – capital of Armenia
- Armenian government decision on consumption of big amount of water from lake Sevan for irrigation, as prevention from coming drought
- Mining development (exploitation of new copper-molybdenum mines), which brings to deforestation and increasing danger for human health
- The situation with protected areas, mainly Khosrov Reserve. A part of it was separated and reorganized as sanctuary
President of the NGO “Eco-Club “Tapan””, coordinator of SPARE in Armenia submitted full set of SPARE materials to prime-minister and told about practical activities carried out in Armenia in frames of SPARE.
Prime-Minister was interested in our window isolation technology implemented in some SPARE schools, which is 10 times economical than changing wooden windows with plastic “Euro-packages”, which is taking place in almost all schools today.
The information on Energy Saving Glass (saving up to 20% of energy), submitted by SPARE International coordinator Dag Hoystad, also seemed very interesting to our Prime-Minister.
As a result of the meeting, Prime-Minister suggested 6 participants of the meeting to become members of RA Governmental Committee on “Sustainable Development”. President of NGO “Eco-Club “Tapan””- Hrant Sargsyan was one of them. Committee meetings are planned to be held once per month. The first meeting of the renewed committee is planed to be held on 17th of July 2008.
